Subnational Elections in Competitive Authoritarian Regimes

This dataset covers subnational elections held under competitive authoritarianism between 1990 and 2023. The current version served as the empirical foundation for my dissertation and published research. I am continuing to expand the dataset with new cases and variables to further examine the factors that enable opposition parties to win office at both the subnational and national levels.

Subnational Elections in Turkey, 2009–2024

Currently under construction, the Subnational Elections in Turkey, 2009–2024 dataset covers four electoral cycles and 324 municipal elections. It includes data on more than 1,000 candidates and 16 years of mayoral performance. The dataset combines measures of candidate characteristics, incumbent mayoral performance, and municipality-level structural characteristics.
